THE WINNING TEAM – Race Horse and Jockey
This was a commission of a race horse – called ‘Little White Lie’, and his jockey – I was not too sure if I would be able to achieve this as I had only one photo and an old painting of the two of them to work from. Sadly the race horse had died some years ago. His old owner gave me a short description of the personality of the race horse who he described as “always very calm, but with huge power in his hind legs and head held high when in the ring.”
I spent a number of hours at a racing yard, taking photos, and watching the thoroughbreds in their stable and out exercising – it was a great privilege to be around such valuable and beautiful thoroughbreds. They have such presence.
This bronze equestrian sculpture, has more of a classic look and feel than many of my other sculptures, as this was this was my brief, but there is still some gentle movement, and hopefully the elegance and power of this very special race horse, ‘Little White Lie.’
This bronze sculpture is an edition of 9 and sits on a slate base.
