PEEKABOO AND WHERE ARE YOU? – Two Small Girls
Peekaboo
It is human nature for a child is to hide their face, so they think you can’t see them! This is just one of the many traits of a young child that I was keen to capture.
I worked with a small girl of about 2 years old to produce a bronze figurative sculpture for the home. It ideally works best when positioned alongside the other small child sculpture of a girl looking up. This little girl is on the floor, pretending to hide her face, thinking no one can see her!
I have shown very little detail in this figurative sculpture as I wanted to focus on the outline and shape, but I have exaggerated the little girl’s tummy as children generally do not care about things like that.
I sculpted the young children as a pair, in a rust finish, which looks lovely on the window sill. But equally, they can be patinated with a traditional bronze finish.
This figurative sculpture can be cast in bronze as a limited edition of 9, bronze resin, or iron resin as a limited edition of 25. They are sold as a pair.
Where are you?
You can learn so much from children. I realise now having my own, that children are only borrowed or lent to us and we are constantly teaching them how to fly – which they do all too quickly! How time flies as a parent!
I love observing human nature. Children have such a natural presence. I was keen to show their vulnerability through this figurative sculpture. I studied a small child of about 2 years old. When I produced this sculpture for the outdoors on a larger scale, the bronze figure is reaching for something beyond, signalling ‘anything is possible in life’. There was also a message of hope. For this smaller indoor bronze figurative sculpture of the same pose, the small girl shows a sense of vulnerability. This is so often experienced by young children, looking for their mother in order to be picked up and held. Normally screaming their heads off. Fortunately, I cannot sculpt that sound!
I have exaggerated the little girl’s tummy to emphasise their lovely soft rounded bodies and their pot bellies! This bronze sculpture is available as a limited edition of 9 or it can also be cast in iron or bronze resin as a limited edition of 25. They are sold as a pair.
