A LONG DAY HUNTING – Standing Horse
Background
This equestrian horse sculpture represents a hunter (Irish Sports Horse), after a long day in the field, hunting.
My love of horses began when I was a child. I managed to persuade my very unhorsey parents to let me have a pony. But I was told this had to be for the next 10 birthdays! I would just love to go riding on my own for hours and hours, in the Gloucestershire countryside. It was during this time that I developed a strong appreciation for the peace of my surroundings. I loved being submerged with ever changing flora and fauna. This is where my love of the outdoors really began – on the back of a horse! I remember vividly trying to learn my french vocabulary on the back of a horse, in the evening after school and also having endless picnics with my parents who were on bikes!
Sculpture
I was lucky enough to work with a hunter in a big studio. This allowed me to really study his form, from a sculptural perspective. This equine sculpture shows a tired hunter, after a day out in the field. I wanted you to feel that exhaustion as you look at this bronze horse, after a long day hunting, with his head low, asleep on his feet. You know that feeling!
The horse itself is from Ireland. They are strong horses, generally known as Irish Sports Horses and have been worked hard from a young age. They are taught to jump anything fearless of what is behind the jump. As the adrenaline is pumping through their bones, these hunters only feel the effects of the long day when they return to their field or stable.
This equestrian sculpture of a hunter has a very textural surface which has been brought to your attention having a verdigris finish and as an indoor sculpture. It looks very striking in an alcove, or on a side table in a formal or informal setting.
You can buy this equestrian sculpture as a limited edition of 25 in bronze resin or as a limited edition of 9 in bronze.
Finishes: Please note that the images shown are purely an indication of how a piece may look and the colour of the finish may vary.
