RESPECT – Lying Lurcher
My love of dogs continually develops as I get to know more and more breeds. I did love entering into the world of lurchers, when I sculpted these two dogs. It was their calm and serene nature which I enjoyed the most – they just can’t help but move and act with such elegance, and these were the qualities I was keen to portray in this bronze animal sculpture of a pair of lurchers.
What I find intriguing is that a lurcher is not a breed of dog but a type of hound that results from cross breeding a sighthound with another type of working dog such as a collie or a terrier. They have an elegance which you fail to find in even the most expensive of breeds!
I wanted to capture a lurcher just before it roles over, when he meets another dog or a person….a willingness to show utmost respect to those around. There is also a vulnerability in this breed which I was also keen to capture.
As a bronze animal sculpture this piece is ideal for people who love lurchers, or simply appreciate animal relationships. The dogs can be bought in bronze separately for £2,350 each or as a pair for £4,450 as a limited edition of 9. Alternatively, they can be purchased as a bronze resin as a limited edition of 25.
