RESTING – Lying Sheep (Zwartbles sheep)
This bronze wildlife sculpture is based on a Zwartbles sheep which came from the Netherlands. For us, Mrs Darling was a pet and she was very dear to all who knew her or came to meet her. I have done a number of bronze sculptures of this sheep, but in this piece I wanted to capture the lovely nature of Mrs Darling, resting in the field. She was a mother, and a grandma and probably a great grandmother. She was almost more human than sheep. She always exuded a calm presence and I hope you can feel and see her character in this bronze animal sculpture.
Since I did my series of sheep sculptures, sadly Mrs Darling died, and she will be very much missed. We loved her visiting our kitchen in search of food…her favourite was pasta but there was an infamous incident when she managed to snaffle a whole cake! All through the winter, she remained in the stable or nearby, sheltering from the wind and rain and munching on the hay and sheep nuts or, even better, human food! Occasionally she would escape into the garden and loved the rich grass.
This bronze wildlife sculpture is available in bronze as a limited edition of 9 or in bronze resin as a limited edition of 25.
