SHERLOCK – Large Mountain Goat for the Garden

Background

We lived in the Alps for a number of years when the children were small.  We spent hours trying to spot a mountain goat, perched on that ledge, with no where to go!  The most popular form of goats in the Alps were Chamois with short, dark horns.  They were often hunted in the winter.  The other breed of goat we would sometimes spot, particularly in the summer, were Ibex.  They would stand proud with their very strong, rigid, sabre shaped horns.

The garden sculpture

When I started sculpting the goat,  I had these images in my mind.  I wanted  him to stand proud, and have attitude!  I used the plaster and scrim, to follow the line of his body and accentuate his body shape.  The completed outdoor sculpture was crying out to be positioned on a stone base, to make him look like he is peering down on you.   But he looks equally powerful on a slight incline or even a flat grass bank, either appearing from a cluster of trees, or in a corner.  He looks after us in our garden, and comes alive when the sun brings out the vibrancy of the rust, bouncing off from the green surrounds!

The garden sculpture can be cast in resin as a limited edition of 48 or as a limited edition of 9 in bronze.  The cost of the sculpture does not include the stone plinth but we can supply and organise this for you and base it on your needs.
