THE GREAT ESCAPE – Running Hare (small)
I only ever see a hare in the wild for just a moment – and then he’s gone. But I always cherish that moment! Brown Hares graze on vegetation and nibble bark from young trees and bushes. They shelter in a shallow depression in the ground or grasses. When disturbed, hares can be seen bounding across fields using their powerful hind legs to propel them forwards.
They often run in a zigzag pattern and this is what I wanted to capture in this bronze sculpture of a running hare. Hares can change direction extremely fast, and in fact they are one of the fastest animals in the country. I love exaggerating their paws and their gestural movement.
This bronze wildlife sculpture shows a hare running for his life around the bend, out of sight. I exaggerated the movement and fear in his face and body. Everything is on a curve.
I have also produced a large version of this bronze sculpture for the garden which has now been cast in bronze resin or bronze.
